Classroom Economy
The second grade students in my practicum participated in a classroom economy. They were responsible for jobs and responsibilities in the classroom and, in return, were given class money. They were taught how to write checks and participated in payday. After the students were paid, they were given access to the class store. The store was filled with small toys, treats, and various prizes set at various prices. Students added together the their totals and bought their items. Two students worked as the clerks at the store. The students also learned why items go on sale, various economic terms, and how to budget money. The classroom economy also served as a behavior management system for students; giving students more money for great behavior, complements from other classrooms, and perfect attendance.

Student Ads
Students in my second grade practicum classroom created ads for their imaginary lost frogs. The focus of the assignment was to use adjectives to accurately describe these interesting frogs.

The Big Show-- "Can You Feel the Love Tonight"
The students were part of Franklin Fine Arts Center's Big Show. The show featured four different Broadway Musicals: The Lion King, Annie, The Sound of Music, and Guys and Dolls. Our second graders were part of "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from The Lion King. The Students practiced with the dance and music teachers relentlessly and did a great job. The fine arts education at Franklin Fine Arts Center allows for the students to learn about music, dance, drama, piano, and art. It exposes each student to a world of culture and creativity.

Reading Comprehension Strategies
For a class project, I created a reading comprehension strategy to improve student understanding of text. I thought about students I've had in the past who have struggled with comprehending what they are reading. One important aspect of reading is interest. If students find that reading is a way to enjoy themselves and pass time, they will be more motivated to work hard to improve their skills. This assignment demonstrates my first step in changing the perception of reading in the classroom.
